wow, been a while – again. Need to sort this blog out. I keep preaching to clients how a blog is a commitment as users will see its getting old quick so you constantly have to update it. Also, keeping your SEO efforts sweet, don’t let google come and visit and your content hasn’t been updated in months.
Guess I need to practice what I preach.
A few weeks back everyone was talking about Highlight. A great networking tool that seems to have been the most talked about app at SXSW. (More on that later)
I’ve been playing with some Social Networking apps for a while and wanted to give some thoughts and show you some of the stand out ones.
To explain, these are apps that require no checkin for venues yet let you collect information about other users in the area. Your phone will be sending out a signal that will tell other users you are near. (Yes you can turn it off if you want.) they can be used to find people with similar interests, exisiting friends, friends of friends, and in some case specific types such as developers or business leads.
One thing that really does my head in during client or agency meetings is that there is alway some genius that asks for a Viral.
I mean really, “Hi, this is our new detergent, can we make a viral?” er… sure I mean that how it works. Charlie biting that kids finger, all planned and scripted. Rebecca Black planned on have everyone take the piss out of her crap song – not her musical abilities. Sure
Thing is Virals are not planned, they are attempted. At that next brainstorm, change the wording to “Lets attempt to create a clip that will go viral” much easier. Think about it, if there was a guaranteed sience to making something go viral, then we wouldn’t have virals. Everything would be clocking 50 million views and nothing would stand out.
You may have noticed all the posts and blogs regarding the new brand pages on Facebook. I thought I would gather some of the highlights all in one spot.
Yesterday Facebook admins were faced with the message about new timelines coming for brands and that they can start prepping and previewing. These changes are looking good and the new functionalities will make them that much more powerful.
Read an article on SocialMediaToday. It was written by Pam Moore who had received an email from a “Social media expert” and explained how she can master the art and get massive follower numbers.

Thats just the start, when you have finished reading this, head over and read the full article here.
This got me thinking and yet again pissed me off with the various fly by night, snake oil salesmen in social media today. The dipshits that cause damage in agencies and in educating clients
